I recently completed the second course of the Coursera Google UX design courses and decided to share my thoughts. Firstly, I want to express how well structured the course is. All the weeks are sectioned off well and easy to navigate. It took me around 1 month to complete this course due to me spending around 2.5 hours a day, but it can be completed if more time is placed in it.

Course Content

This course goes over the following content

This course builds off the foundation of information you learned in the first course and continues the process of empathize, define and ideate. I honestly didn’t know how I was going to feel about UX research methods going into this course. I had read some opinions about UX research beforehand and gotten the idea that this would be the most frustrating part about learning UX. I can safely say that this Course eased my nerves of research and even gave me some joy in my various research methods.

Instructor

The main instructor for this course is Emily a UX researcher for Google. Emily brings a lot of bright energy into the way she speaks which goes well for this course because she brings out a lot of the fun that can be had during the research method. My favorite part of this course from her was coming up with ideas for the crazy eights exercise.

Assignments

This course has a bit more variety in the assignments compared to the last course. Since the course work is more in-depth, you will see much more going on with the assignment selection. You will have several opportunities to provide peer reviews to other people taking the course and vice versa. This gives you the opportunity to connect and possibly network more with people all over the world while simultaneously gives you a bit of insight into other future UX designers. I also love that you get to start work on your case study while you work on the course

Conclusions

This course really opened my eyes to the possibilities of UX research. This course not only gave me the knowledge I need to start my case study, it also gave me the tools and resources I need to become a devoted researcher. Since I finished Course 2, I have begun implementing the methods into my everyday life which I believe is a good indication of what I learned.
